Boiler Repair in Easton, PA

A boiler is a different animal from a furnace. It heats water rather than air, it moves that heat through pipes to radiators or in floor loops, and when it fails it usually fails quietly rather than dramatically. Plumbing Pros repairs boilers across Easton, Bethlehem, Nazareth, Wilson and the Lehigh Valley.

Our diagnostic fee is $85, waived for members of our service plans.

If you smell gas, leave the house and call your gas utility from outside. Do not touch switches. If a carbon monoxide alarm is sounding, get everyone out and call 911. Call us once the property is safe and we will handle the equipment.

Signs your boiler needs attention

  • No heat, or some radiators hot and others cold. Often trapped air or a circulator pump rather than the boiler itself, and both are ordinary repairs.
  • Pressure too low or too high. A healthy system sits in a narrow band. Pressure that keeps dropping means a leak somewhere, and pressure that climbs means an expansion tank or fill valve problem.
  • Kettling. A rumbling or banging like a kettle boiling, usually scale on the heat exchanger. Hard water across the Lehigh Valley makes this common.
  • The boiler locks out and needs resetting. One reset is a nuisance. A pattern of resets is the system telling you something before it fails properly.
  • Water around the base. Never normal. Get it looked at before it reaches the floor or the gas controls.
  • The pilot or ignition keeps dropping out.
  • Radiators cold at the top, warm at the bottom. Air in the system, and usually a quick bleed.

What we check

  • System pressure, the fill valve and the expansion tank
  • The circulator pump and zone valves, which are the most common failures on a multi zone system
  • The heat exchanger, for scale and for cracks
  • Ignition, gas pressure and combustion
  • The aquastat and the low water cutoff
  • Venting and the flue
  • Air in the loops, and whether it keeps coming back, which points at a leak

You get told what failed, what the repair costs, and whether it is worth making, before any work starts.

Repair or replace

Boilers are stubborn machines and often worth repairing well past the point where a furnace would be written off. Cast iron boilers in particular can run for decades.

Replacement becomes the honest answer when the heat exchanger is cracked, when the system needs repeated repairs in one season, or when the efficiency is so low that the running cost outweighs the repair. If your boiler has years left, we will say so.

If replacement is the answer, see boilers and radiant heating. Financing through Wisetack is available from $500 to $65,000 for approved applicants.

Steam and hot water systems

Older properties around Easton still run steam. Steam behaves differently from hot water: it needs correct pitch on the pipes, working vents, and the right water level. It is a specialist job and worth telling us on the phone which type you have, because it changes what we bring.

Why call us

  • Master HVAC-R licence 9380, held by owner Salvatore Sciorta.
  • Licensed gas line contractor. A boiler fault that turns out to be a gas supply problem does not need a second company. See gas line services.
  • 4.9 stars across 650 Google reviews.
  • BBB accredited, A plus rating since June 2024.
  • Second generation. Sal trained under his father in New York City and spent six years with the New York City Transit Authority working on infrastructure built in the 1890s, which is where you learn old heating systems.

Common questions

How much does boiler repair cost?

The diagnostic is $85, waived for service plan members. The repair depends on the fault. A stuck zone valve and a cracked heat exchanger are very different jobs and you get the price before we start.

My radiators are cold at the top. Is that serious?

Usually not. That is air in the radiator and bleeding it often fixes it. If it keeps coming back, air is getting in somewhere and that is worth finding.

How often should a boiler be serviced?

Once a year, before the heating season. Most winter breakdowns were visible in the autumn.

What is that banging noise?

Most likely kettling, which is scale on the heat exchanger from hard water. It is common here and it is worth dealing with, because scale makes the boiler work harder and shortens its life.

Do you work on steam boilers?

Yes. Tell us it is steam when you call so we arrive with the right parts.
