Most plumbing and HVAC companies will not tell you what anything costs until someone is standing in your kitchen. We think that is backwards. Here is what we publish, what actually drives the price of a job in Easton, and how to avoid being surprised.
What we charge that is fixed and published
| Item | Cost |
|---|---|
| Diagnostic fee | $85, and it is waived for service plan members |
| Emergency and weekend dispatch fee | $195, waived on the Plumbing Assurance Emergency and Shield plans |
| Plumbing Assurance plan | $32.99 per month |
| Elite HVAC plan | $45.00 per month |
| Plumbing Assurance Emergency plan | $49.99 per month |
| The Shield Plan, plumbing and HVAC | $59.99 per month |
Repairs and installations are quoted per job, because a water heater in a finished basement with tight access is not the same job as one in an open garage. What we will not do is quote you a number over the phone that changes once we arrive.
What actually drives the cost of a job
Access
The single most underestimated cost. A sewer line under a finished basement floor costs more than the same line in a crawl space, because the work includes opening and restoring the floor. Same pipe, very different job.
What is already there
If your home has galvanized water lines or cast iron drains, a repair often turns into a replacement, because patching a pipe that is rusting from the inside just moves the failure a few feet down. We will tell you when that is the case rather than sell you the same repair twice.
Code
Plumbing code has improved a lot since most Easton homes were built. Bringing a section up to current code can add scope. It also means the work passes inspection, which matters when you sell.
Emergency versus scheduled
The same job costs more at ten at night on a Saturday. If the work can wait until Monday, we will say so.
Efficiency choices
On HVAC and water heaters, you are choosing a monthly operating cost as much as an install price. A high efficiency system costs more up front and less every month. Upgrading to a tankless water heater tends to return around three times the installation cost at resale, and carries a much longer warranty than a tank.
How to not get surprised
- Get it in writing. A detailed written estimate should list labor, materials, and any fees separately.
- Ask what happens if they find something. Old homes hide things. Ask how change orders are handled before work starts.
- Ask about the warranty. Our service plans include a 3 year parts and labor warranty, or 6 years on the Emergency and Shield plans.
- Ask whether the diagnostic fee applies to the repair. Ours is waived entirely for plan members.
- Compare like for like. A cheaper quote that reuses a failing shutoff valve is not cheaper.
Financing, so cost is not the reason it waits
We offer financing through Wisetack. Qualified customers pay zero down, nothing out of pocket on the day of service, and can get up to 24 months at 0% APR depending on creditworthiness. Approved amounts run from $500 to $65,000.
Checking what you qualify for takes about a minute and uses a soft credit check, which does not affect your credit score. See how financing works.
Financing is subject to credit approval and not all applicants qualify for the 0% offer.
