Heating Repair in Easton, PA

Heating covers more than one machine. A no heat call in Easton might be a gas furnace, a hot water boiler, a steam system in an older property, or a heat pump running in reverse. What is behind the wall changes the diagnosis completely, and it is the first thing we ask on the phone.

Plumbing Pros repairs all of them across Easton, Bethlehem, Nazareth, Wilson and the Lehigh Valley, and heating and cooling across Warren County, New Jersey. Our diagnostic fee is $85, waived for service plan members.

Before anything else

If you smell gas, leave the house and call your gas utility from outside. Do not touch light switches. If a carbon monoxide alarm sounds, get everyone out and call 911. Call us once the property is safe.

Check these three things first

Genuinely worth two minutes before you book anything, because any one of them can be the whole problem.

  • The thermostat. Batteries, and that it is set to heat rather than auto or cool.
  • The furnace switch. It looks like an ordinary light switch near the unit or at the top of the basement stairs, and it gets knocked off more often than anyone expects.
  • The filter. A clogged filter makes a furnace overheat and shut itself down on the limit switch, which presents exactly like a broken furnace.

If one of those fixes it, you have saved a service call and we would rather you knew.

What usually fails, by system

Gas furnace: the flame sensor, which is the most common no heat cause and one of the cheapest repairs, then the hot surface ignitor, the limit switch, the blower motor and the control board.

Boiler: the circulator pump, zone valves, low system pressure, or air trapped in the loops. See boiler repair.

Heat pump: the reversing valve, a failing defrost cycle, or auxiliary heat running constantly because the changeover is set wrong. See heat pumps.

What we check

  • Ignition and the flame sensor
  • Gas pressure, burners and combustion
  • The heat exchanger for cracks, which is a carbon monoxide risk and the one fault that ends a system
  • Limit switches and safety controls
  • Blower motor, filter and static pressure
  • Flue and venting, and the condensate drain on a condensing furnace
  • Thermostat wiring and operation

You get told what failed, what it costs and whether it is worth repairing, before work starts.

After hours

No heat in freezing weather is an emergency, particularly with infants, older adults or anyone with a medical condition in the house. Our emergency and weekend dispatch fee is $195, waived on the Emergency and Shield plans. See emergency HVAC service.

Common questions

How much does heating repair cost?

The diagnostic is $85, waived for plan members. The repair depends entirely on the part. A flame sensor cleaning and a blower motor are very different jobs, and you get the price before we start.

My furnace starts then stops. Why?

Short cycling, usually the furnace overheating and protecting itself. The most common cause is restricted airflow from a dirty filter. Change it first.

Should I keep resetting the boiler?

Once is fine. A pattern of resets is the system telling you something before it fails properly, and it is worth a look.

How long should a heating system last?

A gas furnace typically fifteen to twenty years, a heat pump twelve to fifteen. Cast iron boilers often run far longer.
